Yesterday, my friend showed me J.Period and his album J.Period Presents… The [Abstract] Best. It’s pretty much the best of Q-tip, with lots of remixes and some interludes, allowing for some commentary to show you some “behind the scenes” stuff. It’s a really fantastic album, and you can grab the free download at: http://www.jperiod.com/q-tip/.
J. Period has more stuff than this album, also. Last night I got this album, and I also got J.Period & Don Cannon Present..Design Of A Decade as well as the Michael Jackson tribute album J.Period Presents… Man or the Music, both free. J.Period offers a lot of material, and a good amount of it is free. You can find it all by going to http://www.jperiod.com/products/, scrolling down, and clicking on the album covers. Some will be free, some won’t, but the point is they’re all really good. A DJ Premier tribute, a Notorious BIG tribute, and the Best of The Roots, are only a couple of the albums that he’s got up there. Definitely worth a look.
Like I said, the Best of the Abstract album is phenomenal. I really like the tribute remixes, which they do with songs like “Excursions”, “Jazz (We’ve Got)”, “Buggin’ Out”, and “Youthful Expression” (which is my favorite one because Talib Kweli is on it). “Let’s Ride” is also a great song, with some great wordplay. Definitely make sure this is something you get, especially since it’s free.
